Swaner Preserve & EcoCenter has announced a new exhibit titled “Beauty & the Beaks: A Photographic Love Letter to Swaner Preserve” by Steve Krongard and Jodi Buren.
Visitors to the exhibit will experience the dynamic landscapes of the Swaner Preserve and the majesty of the sandhill cranes that the preserve says are native to the area. The exhibit is free and is presented in English and Spanish.
“Stunning photographs and interactive elements reveal the science and magnificence of the sanctuary and the cranes that thrive here,” a press release said.
Artists Steve Krongard and Jodi Buren have dedicated many years to photographing the Swaner Preserve, both pursuing a similar passion but different visions, the press release said.
“Their photographs are a love letter to sublime and timeless beauty; to mist, snow, wind and rain; to mountains and grasses; to vast skies and the creatures that live beneath them. They photograph to capture the fleeting moment; to share with others this ever-changing encounter between earth, sky and the play of light of nature that graces us with its presence every day.”
Hunter Klingensmith, Director of Visitor Experiences and Exhibitions at Swaner, said, “What a special opportunity to highlight the complex beauty of this special wetland habitat. What I love about this exhibition is the opportunity Jodi and Steve give the viewer to shift their focus from macro to micro – capturing the brilliant expanses and the tiny details in a single exhibit. Our team had so much fun developing interactive experiences to accompany the photos and can’t wait to see people of all ages at this exhibition.”
The exhibit offers interactive opportunities for children and adults, including dressing up as a crane, building a nest, foraging for food or filling in the crane’s thoughts on the children’s wall. In addition, visitors can follow an interpretive guide to learn more about the ecosystem behind the photos or send their own love letter on a postcard. Visitors can explore the exhibit during the preserve’s regular hours, Wednesday through Sunday, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
The community is also invited to register for a “Meet the Artists” event on Tuesday, September 24th from 5-7pm. This 21+ event will include snacks and drinks, a discussion with the artists, and time to view the exhibition. Tickets are free and available at this link. Advance registration is required.
