SEC football returns to the ABC network this fall, and ESPN has now unveiled its theme song, which will accompany fans to games this season and bring back a little nostalgia.
According to fan comments on ESPN’s tweet revealing the theme song, the new (or old) sound received mixed reviews.
“I was excited about college football until I saw this,” commented one fan.
Another said: “Nobody asked for this.”
But the views were not all negative. Another user said: “Very excited and looking forward to it.”
This is the first season that SEC football will be seen on the ESPN and ABC airwaves after the conference ended its long-standing relationship with CBS.
SEC Commissioner Greg Sankey explained why his conference’s contract with ESPN and ABC is so important to the future of the league.
“The result is that by moving to the ABC-ESPN group, we have access to more broadcasting opportunities than we’ve perhaps ever had, certainly not in the last few decades,” Sankey said. That’s something I’ve talked about, but it’s getting lost.
“In other words, in over 130 million homes with television, we could literally air an ABC game at 12:00 p.m. Eastern Time and then on certain Saturdays during prime time… That’s an example of the reach we’re about to achieve.”
