With the 2024 Paralympic Games in Paris, Google continues to support the Para-athletes who participate in these games with much enthusiasm and excitement. Google updated its Doodle on September 5th to commemorate the powerlifting event.
The doodle shows a chicken lifting what looks like a loaf of bread in the Aréna Porte de La Chapelle. On top of this loaf sits another chick eating bread. On its official Google Doodle page, Google wrote: “The wait is over, the weights are here. Get ready for today’s Para Powerlifting Event at the Aréna Porte de La Chappelle!” The event, which began on September 4, will see athletes compete in various categories until September 8.
Paralympic powerlifting, also known as para-powerlifting and para-lifting, is an event adapted for athletes with disabilities. According to the official Paralympic website, any athlete with one or more of the eight eligible physical impairments can compete in the event. All athletes in para-powerlifting must have a lower limb or hip impairment that meets the minimum criteria for participation.
On the first day of the powerlifting competition, China’s LL Guo took first place in the women’s 45 kg class, and Z. Newson from Great Britain and N. Muratlı from Turkey took second and third place respectively. In the men’s 49 kg class, O. Qarada from Jordan won gold, and the silver and bronze medals went to A. Kayapinar from Turkey and VC Lê from Vietnam.
