Neil Young has told his fans why he has decided to cancel the remaining dates of his Love Earth tour with Crazy Horse.
Young had played about 15 shows before canceling the tour in June due to health reasons. In a recent Zoom with subscribers of his Neil Young ArchivesIn a video shared on Reddit, he revealed what prompted him to cancel the tour.
“I was doing great and we were making good progress. Everyone was loving the shows. Then one morning I woke up on the bus and said, ‘I can’t do this. I have to stop.’ I felt sick thinking about going on stage,” the rocker explained. “My body was telling me, ‘You have to stop.’ So I listened to my body.”
Young added that he was aware that the cancellation could lead to legal problems, but believed his decision was the right one.
“For me, it’s the art of playing and the music that counts. That’s what matters. That’s what people love. That’s what they want to see,” he said. “But if that’s not there, then it doesn’t work. My body told me not to do it.”
But it sounds like fans will have more opportunities to see Young on tour in the future.
“I’m starting to feel like I could do it again, and that’s a great feeling,” he says. “Not all of Crazy Horse — that’s happened to some of us, and we’re not all back yet. Crazy Horse will come back, God willing. And we’ll play more.”
He also noted that while he has not yet announced any new tour dates, he plans to perform in theaters “in a few weeks,” supported by several members of Promise of the Real.
