Montgomery County recently introduced an AI action plan to improve public services.
The AI Action Plan is a comprehensive strategy to improve public services through artificial intelligence (AI). Led by the Department of Technology and Enterprise Business Solutions (TEBS), this plan underscores the county’s commitment to using AI responsibly, ethically, and equitably for the benefit of citizens. Key initiatives include the creation of an Artificial Intelligence Center of Excellence (AICOE) to oversee AI projects, an upgrade of the MC311 chatbot (“Monty 2.0”) to improve citizen interaction, and efforts to secure and update data for greater accuracy and security. The county is also collaborating with academic institutions and other jurisdictions to research and implement best practices for the use of AI.
From the press release:
“This plan, led by the Department of Technology and Enterprise Solutions, demonstrates our unwavering commitment to the responsible, ethical and equitable use of cutting-edge technology. Through the responsible use of AI, we aim to improve public services and drive innovation throughout our community. I encourage citizens to engage with us, provide feedback and help shape the future of AI-powered public services in the County.” – Montgomery County Executive Marc Elrich
Montgomery County’s AI Action Plan outlines a structured approach to integrating artificial intelligence (AI) into its operations. The plan is organized into four key areas:
- AI strategy: AICOE will create a framework to increase efficiency, reduce costs and automate tasks.
- Structure and personnel: AICOE will define roles and responsibilities to effectively manage AI projects.
- guide: AICOE will implement policies to manage AI risks and protect data integrity.
- Partnerships: AICOE will collaborate with experts, hire new talent and partner with departments and vendors.
