Lady Gaga is not in a “bad romance.”
In her Vogue cover story published on Thursday, the singer revealed rare details about how she met and became engaged to her fiancé Michael Polansky.
The Grammy winner’s mother, Cynthia Germanotta, first crossed paths with the businessman due to a “philanthropic overlap” and told Gaga, “I think I just met your husband.”
The songwriter recalled thinking, “I’m not ready to meet my husband!”
However, she went to Sean Parker’s birthday party in September 2019 and “kept asking questions” about Polansky until the two were finally introduced to each other – and “talked for three hours.”
The entrepreneur shared his first impression with the magazine and enthused that he was “immediately impressed by her warmth and openness.”
The couple talked on the phone for weeks before arranging their first date, falling in love and quarantining together in Malibu, California, amid the coronavirus pandemic.
“It was really special,” Gaga said. “I’ve been so focused on my career since I was a teenager. And the gift of that time was that I was able to focus entirely on my relationship. I met this totally supportive, loving person who wanted to get to know me – outside of Lady Gaga.”
Polansky agreed, adding, “We experienced this amazing chapter of a strange kind of normality that is essential to the real development of any relationship – taking walks, making coffee, hanging out with the dogs, reading books together.”
Gaga, who subsequently praised her “smart and kind” partner who makes her “so happy,” revealed that Polansky proposed to her in April.
After a day of climbing, he fell to one knee.
That same month, speculation circulated about the duo’s engagement, with Gaga debuting a huge diamond ring during an outing in West Hollywood.
At the Olympic Games in Paris in July, she referred to Polansky as her “fiancé.”
A source told People at the time that the couple had been engaged for “several months” before Gaga’s confirmation.
The insider claimed: “The couple immediately shared the happy news with their family and close friends, but otherwise wanted to keep the engagement a secret.”
The artist has been engaged twice to actor Taylor Kinney and talent manager Christian Carino.
Gaga insisted to her fans on Thursday that she and Polansky were “meant for each other” even though their lives were “very different.”
She said: “I was in a really dark place. I was struggling to find, like, many years. … But everything began to change. Because I had a real friend who saw Ways in which situation I was unhappy and why. And he wasn’t afraid to really hold my hand. And get to know me. On a very deep level.”
