K-pop singer Taeil is accused of a sexual offense and will leave the boy band NCT.
This news was confirmed by his agency SM Entertainment, according to an official statement from Soompi. Shortly after the news surfaced, fans saw that bandmate Haechan had unfollowed him on Instagram.
SM Entertainment issued the following statement on August 28. It read: “This is SM Entertainment. We recently learned that Taeil has been charged with a sexual offense in a criminal case. Upon reviewing the facts of this case, we realized the seriousness of the situation and concluded that Taeil can no longer continue his activities with the team (NCT). After consulting with Taeil, we have decided to withdraw him from the group.”
The statement continued: “Taeil is currently cooperating fully with the police investigation. We will provide further statements as the investigation progresses. We deeply apologize for the concern and distress caused to our artist.”
While fans were shocked by this revelation, many also noticed that Taeil’s NCT bandmate Haechan unfollowed him on Instagram. One fan posted this on X (previously Twitter) and wrote, “If the members unfollow him, I know this issue will be serious, even his best friend unfollowed him. I don’t know how to react to this case.”
Taeil has not yet released an official statement from his account.
NCT 127 is the first permanent and second subgroup of the boy band NCT. It was formed and managed by SM Entertainment. They made their debut on July 7, 2016 with their debut extended play NCT #127. The members of the group were Taeil, Taeyong, Yuta, Jaehyun, Mark, Haechan, Doyoung, Johnny, and Jungwoo.
