Recording artist Juicy J, a prominent figure from the legendary Memphis hip-hop group Three 6 Mafia, has made a name for himself with his latest release, a jazz-inflected hip-hop album titled Ravenite Social ClubThis album features collaborations with notable artists such as Cordae, Grammy winner Robert Glasper and Emi Seacrest.
The title of the album is a tribute to a historic venue at 247 Mulberry Street in New York City’s Little Italy, which is said to have been a Mafia hangout and frequented by figures such as John Gotti.
This is Juicy J’s second album release this year, after Mental Trillity 2which was released on May 21. The album includes a poignant track and video titled “To You,” which features Glasper and Seacrest and is dedicated to his late bandmate Gangsta Boo, who tragically passed away earlier this year.
The legacy of the Three 6 Mafia
Formed in 1991, Three 6 Mafia is a major force in hip hop. Its members include DJ Paul, Koopsta Knicca, Crunchy Black, Lord Infamous and Gangsta Boo. Their debut album Mystical Stylezreleased in 1995, laid the foundation for their influential sound.
Successful sampling
In a recent interview on Springhill’s Two Ways About It podcast, Juicy J revealed that he makes a significant amount of his income from Three 6 Mafia music samples. He says that he loves it when people use samples and he thinks it’s a good thing every time.
Future projects
Last year, Juicy J announced his ambitious plan to release seven albums in 2024. On social media, he humorously noted: “I’ve never worked so hard in my life. After that, I’m going to buy a house on the beach, grow my hair really long, and be a full-time hippie.”
