LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) – Temperatures continue to be the focus, with plenty of heat and staying that way for a few more days. Some areas will also see a few storms today and Thursday, with a much higher chance of storms for the big holiday weekend. That leads us into a much cooler pattern.
Temperatures today will be similar to Tuesday, with temperatures between 30 and 35 degrees in the southeast. The hottest temperatures will continue to be in the west and north, where temperatures will be between 35 and 35 degrees.
Since the humidity is still not very high, the heat index values are not much higher than the actual air temperature.
With a cold front near the region, there is a chance that some storms could reach the northern half of the state.
Temperatures will remain steady on Thursday and Friday, with humidity increasing slightly each day. This means that Thursday will see a few isolated thunderstorms, which will intensify further on Friday and Saturday as a strong cold front moves in from the northwest.
From Friday evening through Sunday, rain showers and thunderstorms may affect outdoor plans, but the weather is better on Labor Day.
Temperatures will begin to drop Saturday and then fall below normal from late Sunday through Labor Day.
I mentioned the possibility of another trough digging into the eastern half of the country over the next week, and the models are recognizing this as well.
