Derrick Henry made his first appearance with the Baltimore Ravens in the NFL season opener on Thursday.
After playing eight seasons as a running back for the Tennessee Titans, Henry signed a two-year contract with the Ravens to join a run-friendly offense featuring dual-threat quarterback Lamar Jackson.
Baltimore opened the 2024 NFL football season on Thursday night with a 27-20 loss at Arrowhead Stadium to the two-time defending champion Kansas City Chiefs, led by star quarterback Patrick Mahomes and tight end Travis Kelce.

In his first game with the Baltimore Ravens, Derrick Henry ran the ball 13 times for 43 yards and scored a touchdown to cap the first drive of the season. The TD was the first of the 2024 NFL season, the 91st of his career, and his first with the Ravens after spending eight seasons with the Tennessee Titans.
Henry didn’t have many chances in the game as the Ravens focused on throwing the ball all game to counteract Kansas City’s strong defense. Henry did have two targets in the passing game, but the passes were not completed.

After suffering an upper-body injury two plays earlier, Isaiah Likely nearly caught a pass on the final play, giving the Ravens a chance to either tie the game or win it. However, his toe was out of bounds. Kansas City won the NFL season opener 27-20 on Thursday.
Kansas City quarterback Patrick Mahomes threw for 291 yards on 20 of 28 passes and scored one touchdown. Rashee Rice caught seven passes for 103 yards.
Baltimore quarterback Lamar Jackson threw for 273 yards and one touchdown on 26 of 41 passes. He was also the team’s leading rusher with 122 yards on 16 carries. Probably the Ravens’ best receiver, he caught nine passes for 111 yards and one touchdown.
Derrick Henry picked up a fourth-and-one for the Ravens with less than six minutes left in Thursday’s NFL season opener against the Kansas City Chiefs. Baltimore needs a touchdown and a field goal as they trail 27-17 in the fourth quarter.
Henry now has 46 yards on 13 carries and a touchdown for the Ravens.
Justin Tucker of the Ravens finished the attack with a 32-yard field goal, cutting Kansas City’s lead to 27-20 with 4:54 minutes left.
Shortly after the Ravens scored, Kansas City wide receiver Xavier Worthy scored his second touchdown of the game on a 35-yard touchdown pass from Patrick Mahomes. Worthy ran for a 21-yard touchdown on the first touch of his NFL career in the first half. After a defensive error by the Ravens, Worthy had complete freedom.
With 10:25 minutes left in the game, Kansas City leads 27:17.
Baltimore Ravens wide receiver Isaiah Likely caught a 49-yard touchdown pass from quarterback Lamar Jackson early in the fourth quarter against the Kansas City Chiefs.
He probably caught the pass and ran down the sideline, making a hesitant move inside the 5-yard line to evade a defender and head into the end zone.
Kansas City leads 20-17 with 14:47 minutes left in the fourth quarter.
Isiah Pacheco’s touchdown was the only score of the third quarter between the Kansas City Chiefs and Baltimore Ravens in Thursday’s NFL season opener. The Chiefs led 20-10 entering the fourth quarter at Arrowhead Stadium.
Derrick Henry has rushed for 39 yards and a touchdown on 11 attempts in three quarters. He had 33 yards after the first half.
Isiah Pacheco capped the first drive of the second half with a 1-yard touchdown run with 11:28 left in the third quarter. Kansas City leads 20-10. The Chiefs drove 81 yards in six plays in 3:32 minutes against the Ravens at the start of the third quarter.

Kansas City kicker Harrison Butker made field goals of 32 and 31 yards in the first half. Ravens kicker Justin Tucker made a 25-yard field goal at the end of the first half, cutting Baltimore’s deficit to three points.

Henry took a handoff from Lamar Jackson, ran to the right guard on the offensive line, ran through a defender and scored a 5-yard touchdown. A 15-play, 70-yard drive that took 6:46 off the first quarter gave the Ravens a 7-0 first-quarter lead.
Henry ran six times for 18 yards and a touchdown on the opening drive of the inaugural season.

NBC analysts Tony Dungy, Super Bowl-winning coach of the Indianapolis Colts, and Rodney Harrison, Super Bowl-winning defensive back for the New England Patriots, both praised Derrick Henry.
“He’ll bring the right mentality,” Dungy said. “(The Ravens) only carried the ball 16 times in the AFC Championship Game. The Ravens can’t do that again and Derrick Henry won’t let them.”
Harrison said the Ravens will try to throw the ball as often as possible, but Henry will need to be the leader of the running game to keep the offense going.
“He brings size, he brings intimidation,” Harrison said. “They want to let Lamar throw and let him win the MVP, but to win a Super Bowl you have to put your hands in the ground and run the football. They can definitely do that with Derrick Henry.”
Thunderstorms moved through Kansas City and over Arrowhead Stadium. The game was scheduled to begin at 7:20 p.m. CT, but will begin at 7:40 p.m. Thursday. The game will be televised on NBC and streamed live on Peacock.

In his career, Henry has averaged 79.8 yards per game in 119 games. In eight seasons, he has totaled 9,502 yards and scored 90 career touchdowns.

Henry attended college at Alabama and won the Heisman Trophy with the Crimson Tide in 2015 after rushing for 2,219 yards and 28 touchdowns to help lead Alabama to the national championship.
Henry is 1.90 m tall, weighs 109 kg and turned 30 on January 4th.
