LOS ANGELES – A brutal and dangerous heat wave lingering across Southern California throughout the week will bring triple-digit temperatures across several areas of the region from Orange County to Ventura County.
The National Weather Service (NWS) predicted the heat wave would peak midweek, and those who flocked to the beaches to cool off didn’t get much of it, with afternoon temperatures at or near 32 degrees along the coast. Santa Monica is forecast to have a high of 32 degrees on Friday, and 31 degrees are expected in Laguna Beach.
“The hottest days with this event will be Friday and Saturday in most areas, and of those two days, Friday has the narrow edge to be the peak day,” the NWS said. “Nighttime low temperatures will also rise, especially in the foothills and lower mountain areas, where some areas may stay above 30 degrees for most of the night. The coast and valleys will not be quite as hot at night, but even there, some warmer valley areas will stay above 27 degrees well into the night.”

While parts of California, such as the Inland Empire, valleys and foothills, typically see temperatures above 100 degrees Fahrenheit, other parts of the South are forecast to see temperatures above 86 degrees Fahrenheit over the weekend.
