“My mom says I can get you a room, but I can’t make you stay there,” Grier tells PEOPLE of her famous mother’s advice
Her mother is one of the most famous faces in the world, so when Brooke Shields’ daughters Rowan and Grier were asked to talk about the Nepo baby, they had some thoughts on the matter.
“My mom says I can get you a room, but I can’t make you stay there,” says Grier Henchy, 18, a college freshman who recently started modeling and has a contract with Tommy Hilfiger.
“People have called me that term a thousand times,” she notes. “It doesn’t really affect me because they’re behind a screen commenting on my social media (but) it hurts my feelings. Of course, wanting to model and having a mother who models helps, but if I get there and they hate the way I look, they’re not going to ask me to come back.”
“Having a famous mother only takes you so far,” she continues. “If I failed at my job, I would be fired. If Rowan failed at her job, she would be fired. (Rowan, 21, a senior in college, spent the summer interning at Good morning America.) “You have to be good at what you do to keep your job.”

Rowan puts it this way: “I work as an intern and I’m constantly asked, ‘What do you need?'” Still, she adds with a smile: “It would be a waste if I continued with my life without using it a little.”
That’s one of many witty remarks Brooke and her daughters shared in their first in-depth interview — just before they left for college — in this week’s issue of PEOPLE.
For Brooke, who started modeling at 11 months old and hasn’t stopped since (she recently launched Commence and LINK, a haircare line for women over 40, and is the newly elected president of Actors Equity Union), it’s all about perseverance and a positive attitude.

“I think in a weird way it makes them work harder,” she says. “I tell Grier, it’s going to be uncomfortable, you’re going to be tired. Your clothes are going to be uncomfortable or uncomfortable, and that’s just how it goes. You get there early and leave after everyone else, and that means something.”
